Piatto Nuziale is a ceramic with engobe glaze made by Giuseppe De Mattia specifically for Visita di cortesia, his solo exhibition at Banquet, Milan (2024), curated by Enrico Camprini. A unique work, the plate was not conceived as a mere display object: even before the public opening, it took an active part in the performative dinner that De Mattia orchestrated the evening before the vernissage, a private event halfway between a happening and a convivial gathering, in which the table itself became a critical device to investigate collective rituals and the sociocultural mechanisms of the art system. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, the plate carries with it the memory of that lived moment, transforming an object of everyday use into the testimony of an action, and entering a broader ceramic practice that De Mattia has returned to across multiple projects throughout his career.
