biography

Marcel Walldorf (1983, Friedberg, Germany) studied Visual Communication at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, where he attended free and figurative drawing classes with Prof. Manfred Stumpf and sculpture with Prof. Wolfgang Luy. After completing his preliminary diploma in 2007, he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden in the sculpture class of Prof. Eberhard Bosslet, where he received his diploma in 2012 and subsequently became a master student (2012–2014). Since 2015 he has been living and working as a visual artist in Frankfurt am Main. In 2023 he co-founded the cultural and exhibition platform MARS / Frankfurt together with Anna Nero and Robert Schittko.

Marcel Waldorf’s artistic practice engages with socially and culturally relevant issues. His works are predominantly figurative and realistic, often infused with humor and irony as central elements. He values art that conveys a clear idea, a strong message, and confident craftsmanship.

Attention to detail, material quality, and technical precision play a crucial role in his work. Drawing from everyday observations and shifting social conditions, Waldorf creates concise constellations that encourage viewers to reflect critically and develop their own perspectives. His art does not shy away from puns, awkwardness, or provocation. It thrives on playful wordplay and absurd visual metaphors, while simultaneously revealing an underlying sense of melancholy and a sharp eye for the fractures and contradictions within society.

Through condensed narratives, Waldorf confronts society with its own double standards. For him, it is essential that art is not limited to an insider audience, but also carries social relevance that extends beyond the art world.
