PRIMITIVE LEARNING

Filippo Sciascia

06.06.25–20.09.25

Banquet Gallery is pleased to present Primitive Learning, the first solo exhibition by Filippo Sciascia at the gallery, marking the artist’s official entry into the gallery’s roster.

The exhibition features a selection of significant works that trace one of the core directions of Sciascia’s research: an inquiry into the origins of knowledge, visual perception, and the languages through which humans have sought to represent, understand, and transmit reality. Primitive Learning is not to be understood in a merely archaic sense, but as a foundational, biological, and cooperative system—one that predates and informs today’s technological paradigms.

Among the works on view is Cable Bacteria, a site-specific installation inspired by the natural microorganism capable of conducting electricity through filamentous structures. The piece embodies a model of collective intelligence embedded in nature, anticipating the principles of transmission and interconnection central to the digital age. Using electrical materials and minimal sculptural forms, Sciascia reflects on the intersections of biology, technology, and imagination—treating nature not as a passive resource but as a dynamic archive of knowledge.

Filippo Sciascia’s work consistently navigates the intersection between art, science, philosophy, and technology. Light, matter, and image become tools for exploring the threshold between perception and knowledge, from the primal instinct to see to the evolved structures of contemporary representation.

Filippo Sciascia (Palma Di Montechiaro, Sicily 1972), lives in Bali, Indonesia, and Florence, Italy. He studied art in Italy and the united states, and he has had exhibitions in various venues in Southeast Asia, Europe, and America. Sciascia examines light as a primary artistic medium in his works across painting and sculpture, video and installations.
